Vitamin A in Pregnancy

by

Jessica Hudson

(Owner of Eva Lillian Maternity & Nursing Boutique)

True too much vitamin A can cause developmental defects in the fetus. But that only applies to external sources of vitamin A. In nature, vitamin A is produced when you eat foods rich in beta carotene. Your body converts those foods into vitamin A, and when you reach your max of vitamin A your body just stops converting them. So, in nature you can not get too much. Therefore, seeking out foods rich in beta carotene, such as dark leafy green vegetables (kale, broccoli, collard greens) and bright red/orange fruits (papaw and carrots), is a much preferred method of incorporating vitamin A while pregnant.
